Oprah criticized
This article is about fans of Oprah Winfrey turning on her for her endorsement of Barack Obama, rather than Hillary. Huh, I didnt know that those were her only two choices?
Oh, but I keep forgetting - people of color arent supposed to vote for Republicans or Libertarians... We people of color should just keep towing the Democratic line because thats what we are expected to do...
Anyways, I think Oprah can endorse anyone she darn well pleases... All of you people who feel she should have endorsed Hillary just because she is a woman obviously are trying to take us back to the 1970's and beyond...
Didnt the civil rights movement and women's liberation movement say that people should be looked at based on what their platforms are, what they stand for, their records, etc NOT for the color of their skin or whether they have boobs or not?

New Hampshire results
I find it rather ironic that things shifted for Hillary after her tearful words a couple of days ago...
I guess she IS playing the gender card after all...
What will Gloria Steinem say about that one?
As for McCain, I think the reason he got a bump was because of the emphasis on foreign policy brought about by Bhutto's assassination.
Let's remember that McCain tried to get an immigration reform bill passed through, that was supported by President Bush, that failed...
If illegal immigration and the nauseating, repeated shouts against amnesty were a top priority for the people of New Hampshire, then McCain wouldnt have won.
Let's also remember McCain voted against the President's tax cuts, another supposed stalwart of the conservative platform.
All I can ascertain from his victory is that people voted for him because of his war experience, senate experience and his knowledge of foreign policy. History has shown that the people of the United States like electing war heroes: George Washington, Andrew Jackson, William Henry Harrison, Zachary Taylor, Dwight Eisenhower...

Steinem still living in the 1960's
So why is the sex barrier not taken as seriously as the racial one? The
reasons are as pervasive as the air we breathe: because sexism is still confused
with nature as racism once was; because anything that affects males is seen as
more serious than anything that affects “only” the female half of the human
race; because children are still raised mostly by women (to put it mildly) so
men especially tend to feel they are regressing to childhood when dealing with a
powerful woman; because racism stereotyped black men as more “masculine” for so
long that some white men find their presence to be masculinity-affirming (as
long as there aren’t too many of them); and because there is still no “right”
way to be a woman in public power without being considered a you-know-what
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/08/opinion/08steinem.html?_r=1&oref=slogin
Gloria Steinem wrote the above, and boy, she couldnt be more wrong...Iowans didnt vote for Hillary because "they are regressing to childhood," they saw her BS for what it was... Memo to Ms. Steinem: people dont like Hillary or her politics...
And as far as voting for Obama for "masculinity-affirming" reasons, shouldnt they have voted for Biden instead? Obama and Edwards dont come across as "manly men." So youre wrong on that one too, Ms. Steinem.
Just come out and be honest; I guess we females should support Hillary because she has boobs, right? So much for judging a candidate on their platform and record...
Sorry, I am NEVER supporting Hillary just because she's a female, and I am not going to support Richardson just because he's half-Mexican.
I prefer to go with what one of my heroes, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr said: judging someone on the "content of their character."

Iowa results
An African-American candidate won a race in Iowa, of all places!
They only have about a 2% population of blacks, so does this mean that we have finally looked passed the color of someone's skin?
I am so thrilled to think that there might be a "turning of the corner" so to speak on race issues in this country.
I know its only one race, but I am going to take-in this historical event...

Quote of the Day
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
I picked this quote after seeing tonight's Iowa caucus results in which Huckabee and Obama proved victorious.
I think the Democratic Party is looking for someone fresh, with some new ideas (even though I dont think Obama has any vision for America - it seems like alot of platitudes to me). It looks like the people of Iowa are tired of the Clintonistas and worried about Bill Clinton getting back in the White House.
I wonder if we will see less of Bill on the campaign trail after tonight's results (one can only hope)
As for Huckabee, I think his Fair Tax has really resonated with voters there, along with his very strong pro-life stance. Conservatives feel very strongly on that issue and the anti-gay marriage issue. And Huckabee is just a likable guy, someone who seems trustworthy...
I still believe Romney will get the Republican Party nomination and Clinton will get the Democratic nomination. Those are my predictions for this year's election.

2008 Presidential race
I used to be a conservative, my pre-9/11 days...
Now I feel I am...hmm... thats a good question?????????
The only person I will absolutely NOT vote for in a million years is:
Hillary Clinton. She has NO experience whatsoever, she has no convictions on anything, she SAYS shes a feminist, but shes not(that whole "stand by your man" no matter how many times he cheats on you is NOT feminist)!
And please, ladies, dont fall into that trap of "well CB, we should support her since shes a woman" crap! Who cares? This is 2007...Shouldnt we judge someone on their platform, values, convictions, record, etc and not their body parts?
Obama - No ideas
Edwards - So Full of crap his campaign manager walks after him with a pooper scooper
Richardson - No, I am not going to say just because hes part Mexican I endorse him
Guiliani - riding the 9/11 thing as far as it will go
Romney - astute businessman who has changed his position too often; who cares if hes a Mormon?
McCain - considered to "soft" on immigration(not in my book), but at least he and President Bush tried; he was a POW for 5 years in Vietnam, so he has my utmost respect and admiration
Hunter - would make a great vice-presidential candidate; Ann Coulter supports him(watch out)
Tancredo - needs more vision than just hammering to death his xenophobia
Thompson - doesnt think quick on his feet; he also seems like he hasnt done his homework in a couple of the debates
which leaves me with...
Yes, Huckabee...
I was a Huckabee supporter before he started rattling off at the mouth about the theological tenets of Mormonism...But he is a Baptist minister; what is he supposed to say?
So why do I support him (as of this current point in time)?
*he hasnt waffled on his views from his time as Governor of Arkansas through today
*he is for the Fair Tax (I will blog on that soon)
*he lost over 100 pounds, which to me means he has focus, and he sticks to something
*two or three debates ago, he said something that floored me that I didnt think any Republican would ever say:
I am paraphrasing: "Sometimes I think the immigration hostility is about the Mexican people and we need to change that; we are alienating the Hispanics in this country because of immigration"
So he had me at "Mexican"...
*Under him in Arkansas, he let children of illegal immigrants have free in-state tuition
